Top 10 Valentine's Cupcakes Ideas

Ahh cupcakes... so many possibilities. People on Pinterest are posting cupcakes like crazy and since Valentine's day is coming up.... in a month hahha... I decided to post my Top 10 favorite ideas for Valentine's day decorated cupcakes. They may not be the best recipes for cupcakes, because those would definitely get complicated, these are just ideas for how to decorate them. Keep in mind they aren't actually in order because I'm not one to discriminate against cupcakes :) Enjoy!

Having said that they won't be ordered... there is definitely a reason that these are first. Madewithloveby.me shows how to bake a heart into your cupcakes with another colour of batter. Make sure to decorate them so that its clear which side to eat them from, so you get a heart, not a random shape.

Mmm these buttercream roses made by call-me-cupcake are just beautiful.

Mmm nothing quite as good as simple thick buttercream frosting. I love the colours she used at apollinas and of course if you want more fanciness you can dress them up. Bulk barn has all kinds of premade decorations like fondant roses and pretty shaped sprinkles. Or you can make your own flowers with this lovely tutorial.

Cupcakewrappers.com has tons of paper wrappers for cupcakes. And I love the little flowers on top! There's a tutorial to make gum paste flowers just like these here.

Okay as it turns out, these aren't even real cupcakes. But since this is about the decorating, that doesn't matter. These are actually fake cupcakes from 12LegsCuriosities, an etsy shop. But sundae cupcakes would be so adorable to share on Valentine's day with their little pink straws, cherries, and other decorations.

LoveFromTheOven made these absolutely adorable cupcakes. They're so simple but I love the blue icing and the little heart :)

These Martha Stewart cupcakes are raspberry flavoured with pink buttercream and lacy chocolate hearts, which are way easier to make than you might think, you should definitely give them a try.

These cupcakes from ObjetivoCupcake have to be one of my all time favorites. I love the dark pink icing, the cute placing of the raspberries and the way she sprinkled sugar on top. They're so pretty, not to mention the fact that they're champagne cupcakes... perfect for Valentine's day, no?

Okay I am so happy I found this tutorial video at Createdby-Diane which shows how to make an icing rose on top of your cupcake in 20 seconds. It's so helpful and now that I have the right tip I'll probably be doing it all the time.

Creature Comforts Blog shows how to make these DIY cupid's arrows, can't go wrong with these for any decorating you want to do for Valentine's day.

Okay those were my Top 10, but here is one special recipe that is a necessity for you and your Valentine. It's for making just two cupcakes, all you need is one bowl and a spoon - also fabulous for light night snacking ;) How Sweet Eats shows how to make them.

Happy Decorating!

Pansies and Violas

We got a seeds catalogue in the mail and I've been reading it at the kitchen table at just about every meal this week. All the pictures of beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables make me wish I wasn't stuck in Ottawa... where everything is covered in cold layers of death - a.k.a. snow. I couldn't help but go searching for anything to do with pansies and violas because I just love how cute they are, not to mention that they are edible flowers so what more could you ask for. So I'm devoting this post to them :)

I found these desserts on Exploits of a Vegan Wannabe and I love them. Can't say I'd eat the ones in the ice cream but I'd definitely make the ice cubes.

StoneGable made these sweet pansy shortbread cookies. The cookies themselves are simple enough, then you just press an eggwashed flower on, sprinkle with sugar and bake for 5 minutes. I love it.

I've seen lots of cupcakes with pansies on top but these ones from Joanne Casey are my favorite. The flowers are a beautiful color. If I can find some organic pansies or violas somewhere I will definitely try a few of these ideas for Valentine's day.

And here are some beautiful pansies and violas that I couldn't help wanting to post :)

Oh! And I forgot about these pansy sugar decorations I found at BakersBlingShop on Etsy. I want to buy them but there are so many things I want from the shop that I haven't had time to decide which to get yet haha.

Needle Felted Valentines

Back in December I discovered needle felting. If you needle felt you know it's really easy to pick up on and can also be really painful! But I love it. I went on Etsy and bought needles, a foam pad, and all kinds of roving wool colours and started making Christmas ornaments for people. It's great, much easier than most hobbies because you just take your felting needle and go at it and get better as you go, of course there are techniques but you can teach yourself basically. If you want to learn faster there are lots of tutorials on Youtube for free. And if you don't want to needle felt you can always buy other people's creations from Etsy. So I put together a few adorable creations and creatures for Valentine's day. I hope you like them!

Scratchcraft on Etsy made this adorable elephant. I can't get over how cute he is. I will definitely have to make one!

This little love bug was made by Asherjasper. It's also a rattle :)

I have seen many cute needle felted penguins but I think this one by MiloandBen tops them all... look at himmm awwwh..

PhDstressrelief made this sweet little squirrel holding a heart. These would make such sweet gifts.

I love this little love otter made by AdoraWools. And you can hang it too! :)

Hehe, I have never seen a needle felted mole before so this guy from clairsmoker really got me... I'm gonna be making moles for every occasion now

Isn't this pin cushion ring by DarnedLovely just ...lovely? I'll definitely try and make one, and I'll have to find me some of those heart shaped pins :)

I love these heart shaped toad stools from FforFelt. How cute would those be on your window sill?

Annnd another cute little thing to put on your window sills or to string to gift tags or whatever you can think of.... these sweet little heart acorns from handmadebybrynne, though I can never seem to get acorns quite right.

I left these peas in a pod from Anniemator for last because they aren't quite Valentine themed. But when I make these I'll give them some rosey cheeks and put a little heart in between them. I love peas in pods :)

I hope you try out needle felting, it really is great. And if you stab your finger it doesn't hurt for long, I promise! Have fun :)

A Hearty Breakfast...

The holidays are over, the Christmas lights are being taken down, the "Happy New Year" greetings are getting fewer, but for some reason I'm still in holiday mode. I still want to do all sorts of baking and decorating and wrapping and get that holiday feeling. So of course I thought, what's next? Valentine's day! I got online and looked up all sorts of ideas that I will probably never get around to making for my boyfriend. So I decided to share with you the perfect Valentine's day breakfast...

This amazing cream cheese and strawberry stuffed french toast is from Tasty Kitchen. Needless to say anyone who makes this for me can surely be my Valentine. Basically cream cheese, jam and strawberries are mixed together and stuffed into a pocket of french toast, then covered in strawberries and icing sugar. Mmmmm.

This little heart-boiled egg tutorial came from Pinterest but had no link with it. I have wanted to make these all year so I'm really excited to try it out. I hope they're as easy as they look!

This adorable heart shaped egg n' toast from Tara Dennis is so simple and adorable. Cut a heart out of your bread with a heart shaped cookie cutter (I just got one from HomeSense for $1.50!) or using a template or free-hand, then fry one side in butter, flip over and crack and egg into the middle and let them fry. I think I'll be making these often...

The Paper Mama on twitter made these lovely bacon shaped hearts and I can't wait to try them myself. Nothing says "I love you" quite like bacon [hearts]!

More Design Please posted these heart shaped doodle pancakes and I just got a new decorating set at a boxing day sale so the bottles will be perfect for trying these out. You could make so many different things with this and I don't really like pancakes that much so I might as well have fun with them.

And... saving the best for last... these Sweeties Pies from The Farm Chicks have been making me drool for months. I don't know why I'm even putting them off because all you have to do is cut out hearts from pie crust dough, put a little jam between two, press down the sides with a fork, bake and sprinkle with icing sugar. Mmmm... jam counts as breakfast right?

I can't wait to make some of these for Chris. I'd love to see some more ideas if you have any!

New Year... New Blog!

Well technically it's not a new blog but there is nothing on it until now so that's what makes it new. I plan to fill it up with posts of all the wonderful recipes, DIYs, and everything of the sort that I happen to find. And if I find the time I will post some of my own creations, ideas, etc. :)
